Accidents involving children are horrible for everyone concerned. As a parent or relative, you will be extremely upset about what has happened. If someone else is at fault for your child’s injuries, you’re probably angry and frustrated too.

We can help you make a claim against those responsible. No amount of money can undo the pain and suffering that has been caused but it can help your child get the treatment and rehabilitation he/she deserves. It also allows you to recover financial losses, especially if you have had to take time off work.

For a free, no obligation enquiry, call us on 0800 024 1400 or fill out our free online enquiry form.

We have different funding options available. Most of our child injury claims are handled on a no win, no fee basis.

Types of child injury accidents

We all know that children are prone to accidents. But sometimes these accidents happen because of someone else’s negligence. This might occur due to:

  • An animal accident, including a dog bite
  • A car accident
  • A faulty toy or product accident
  • Medical negligence
  • A pedestrian accident
  • A public place accident
  • An accident on someone else’s land or house
  • A sports accident

An older child may even be harmed at work. It is not unusual for teenagers to work in pubs, restaurants and shops. Others may also take up apprenticeships or do work experience. If an injury is suffered at work, there may be grounds for an accident at work claim.

Child injury compensation

Seeing your child injured can be heart-breaking. If the accident was serious, it could be life-changing. Injuries may impact on your child’s development, lead to ongoing pain, or require a long recovery period.

This can affect the whole family. If your child needs care, one parent may have to take time off work, or even give up work altogether. The loss of income can be difficult financially, especially if your child needs specialist medical treatment.

A child injury claim allows your child to recover compensation for these damages. You can never put a price on your child’s health. Nothing can ever take away the pain and suffering your family has gone through. But making a claim can at least help you get money for:

  • Any care or support your child needs
  • Any medical treatment or rehabilitation your child would benefit from
  • The financial losses you have incurred as a family
  • Any adaptations or equipment that would improve your child’s quality of life
  • The way your child’s future has been affected

Making a child injury claim

If you think someone else is to blame for your child’s injuries, contact us at Serious Accident Solicitors Ltd. We can advise you on whether your child is entitled to compensation. We can explain to you what is involved.

Child injury claims are slightly different to other types of personal injury claim. This is because a child – meaning someone under the age of 18 – cannot bring a legal action on their own. A parent, relative or legal guardian can bring a claim on a child’s behalf. Or a child can wait until their 18th birthday to start a claim, after which they will have three years to bring a claim.

There are some exceptions to these rules. We can advise you on your exact case when you call.

If damages are paid, your child’s compensation will be held in an account by the court until their 18th birthday.

The money can be accessed before their 18th birthday if your child needs it for something. For example, it can be used to pay for things such as rehabilitation and care costs or something that is needed as a result of the accident.   We can also ask for ‘interim payments’ for you, compensation that is paid while the claim is still continuing and before any final sum is paid. This means that you can make sure that your child’s needs are met as the case goes on without being out-of-pocket.
